O protagonista é um cowboy negro - mais por causa da quantidade de tinta utilizada em seu desenho do que por uma ascendência étnica africana - que vaga pelo velho oeste em meio a prostitutas, bebida, tiroteios, índios e outros ícones desse estilo em particular.

Normalmente o estilo faroeste é considerado alienado e idiota, mas a idéia da série é justamente confrontar esses paradigmas. A começar pelo cowboy negro, uma grande raridade no estilo, mas que é um fato histórico: a maioria dos cowboys do velho oeste eram mesmo negros. Certamente também haviam mexicanos e chineses. Black Durango tenta retratar esse universo com um olhar mais crítico e sarcástico, e ao mesmo tempo realista e historicamente correto.

The main character is a black cowboy - not necessarily african-american, but just black-inked - who wander through the desert western USA meeting prostitutes, booze, shootings, indians, and other icons of this style, but all done with a different perspective of things.

I decided to create a black cowboy because no matter how many different views people give to western movies, they never really depict the people the way they really were. Most of the real cowboys of those days were actually african-american, and there used to be a lot of chinese immigrants too. "Black Durango" revisits the western and cowboy genre with a sarcastic and philosophical look, seeking for historically correctness rethar than political.
